BRCA1

Two short weeks ago, we got “the call” from the genetics department at the Windsor Regional Cancer Centre to advise us that we tested positive for the BRCA1 gene mutation.

We are sisters, Heidi (25) and Nikki (33), and we’d like to share our respective thoughts, feelings, and choices as they relate to our hereditary predisposition to breast and ovarian cancers.  The purpose of this blog is to start a discussion about the BRCA1 mutation; available options, as they are presented to us; and the choices we will be making.  Its secondary purpose is to keep an accurate log of appointments, procedures, results, and other information.

You may wish to follow this blog if you take interest in any of the following related topics: women’s health, breast cancer, ovarian cancer, BRCA1 gene mutation, mastectomy, hysterectomy, oophorectomy, breast reconstruction, body image.
